BYU Research Project

During my senior year at BYU, I was involved in a research project for our on campus broadcast station BYUtv. They are a multinational streaming platform that carries content from game shows like Relative Race to BYU Devotional Address and even BYU sports. The focus of our research project was to help BYUtv increase its viewership with people who are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and who live outside of the state of Utah. Our team was able to construct a questionnaire through a rigorous question vetting process that helped us gain the necessary information to give to the client.

Step One

Our first step was meeting with the client to understand what kind of research they were looking for. After a careful discussion we figured out that they are looking to expand their viewership outside of Utah and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Step two

We started compiling our questions into several different categories including a competitive analysis, media usage/desired content, and even several filter questions. When the survey was compiled it was then sent out through the BYUtv subscriber email list to 800,000 people.

Step three

After receiving the responses from the survey we used statistical software to filter through the questions so that we could find the outliers, clean up the data, and figure out which variables have high correlations. After this we formatted the data into easy to read charts on a deck.

Step four

After we had conducted and sorted through all our research we presented our findings to the client with solutions on how they can better reach their desired audience.
